The medium roast brings forward distinctive notes of blackcurrant, caramel, and vanilla, highlighting the beans’ natural depth. Nestled in the heart of the cacao-rich Duarte province of the Dominican Republic, Öko Caribe consistently produces some of the highest-quality cocoa we have worked with. With more than 50 years of combined experience in cocoa, owners Adriano de Jesus Rodriguez and Gualberto Acebey Torrejon have fine-tuned their systems to ensure consistent, superior quality in their 500+ tons of annual production. This cocoa is meticulously hand-sorted, ensuring exceptional consistency and ease of use.
Öko Caribe supports its 127 producers with technical training, agronomic expertise, and organic certification. In addition, owners Adriano and Gualberto have personal relationships with all producers, offering microfinance loans for cocoa-related expenses, as well as personal loans for family emergencies or other community needs.
For several years, we've partnered with Uncommon Cacao in the U.S., which works directly with Öko Caribe to source and distribute these exceptional beans. The Dominican Republic is a globally important producer and pioneer of organic cocoa, and Öko Caribe is well recognized as a leader in the country for its consistency in quality and excellent flavor.
